My Strawberry Nights
FRAGRARIA - CREED (2025)
Sweet Nostalgia
Strawberry scents tap into a nostalgic return to neo-gourmand pleasures — soft, fruity, comforting, and sometimes slightly mischievous.
It all began with the 2023 cherry boom led by Tom Ford: Cherry Smoke and Electric Cherry completed a trilogy unknowingly sparked by the international success of Lost Cherry in 2018. Once nearly absent from perfumery, cherries are now everywhere (trickle-downs included — be it in body, haircare, and more).
Two to three years later, strawberry steps into the spotlight, riding this renewed appetite for edible nostalgia. Its red hue evokes tender childhood and rosy memories while hinting at a more knowing undertone — a reminder that sweetness can also be bold.
While some fruits in fragrance venture into darker territories, others remain luminous and delightfully tender — sweet, textured, and just ambiguous enough to keep things interesting.
Playing Naive
Strawberry naturally carries a “girl in bloom” aura — the kind of candy-tinted innocence often associated with starlet fragrances like Britney Spears’ Candied Fantasy, built around a cupcake and bubble gum accord, or high-street releases such as Zara’s Strawberry Dress, blending cotton candy and pink peony. In this register, it leans gourmand, youthful, unabashedly pink — exactly where one expects it to be.
Yet lately, strawberry has stepped beyond that predictable script. It now appears within prestige portfolios — from Burberry to Kenzo, Viktor&Rolf, Marc Jacobs, and even Armani — proving far more versatile than its ingénue image suggests.
It doesn’t settle for naïveté. Paired with floral notes, rich woods, musks, or brûléed accords, it shifts from playful to provocative, from tender to ripe. At Notewrks, Room for Dessert may read as indulgent at first glance, but beneath its crème brûlée gloss lies something smoother, bolder, almost sultry — a self-described “date night scent” where the dessert might not be the only thing on the menu.

Strawberry Kaleidoscope
Strawberry embodies dewy freshness and sparkling optimism: “She’s that girl! Impossibly pretty yet incredibly likable,” Ellis Brooklyn’s founder Bee Shapiro says, talking about her latest launch, Miss Strawberry. The aesthetic can even border on the hyper-feminine or toy-like, flirting with the whimsical or avant-garde: at Boy Smells, Doll Skin — a “doll mist” body mist — plays with a glossy plastic accord, amplifying that synthetic, lacquered innocence.
The red fruit proves endlessly versatile — far beyond its girly-girl reputation. From classic renditions to Mara des Bois (Armure Mara, Rabanne) or the white pineberry with its pineapple-like twist (Daisy Glow, Marc Jacobs), strawberry can be wild, upcycled, gelato-textured, or even masculine, like in Gisada Uomo (2025). Who knew?
In niche and high-end perfumery, strawberry proves just as compelling. It appears in maisons such as Etat Libre d'Orange, Balmain, Creed, Tiziana Terenzi, and Bottega Veneta’s Mezzanotte collection, paired with saffron, ambergris or precious woods like agarwood, akigalawood or hinoki — lending depth and refined sophistication.
